During this unit we created a workshop for the elders at Masbro Community Centre. After testing home-made shakers we decided we wanted to incorporate a DIY component to our workshop. Crafting simple instruments with items found at home would have been a good way to build curiosity before the drum circle. It also served a logistical purpose as shakers would be an easier instrument to handle as they are small and lightweight. By the end of the workshop the energy was explosive, people were dancing and the beats of the drums spread to the hallway, attracting curios people into the space. Many elders came up to us enthusiastically reporting that "It made them feel young again". Many told us they would have loved to repeat the workshop and were even willing to contribute financially.
